On the weekend of the 23rd & 24th of April 2022, Hayfield village will host a special 90th anniversary event for the Kinder Trespass which occurred in 1932.
A little background into the mass trespass…
To highlight that walkers were denied access to areas of open country, on 24th April, 1932, hundreds of men and women defied the law to walk over hills and moorland to the plateau of Kinder Scout, Derbyshire, in what would become the Peak District National Park. Estimates vary of the numbers taking part - at the time the Manchester Guardian estimated 400 people had been involved in the Mass Trespass. After the event, the arrest of six young men – and subsequent imprisonment of five – unleashed a wave of sympathy for the ramblers and fuelled the ‘right to roam’-movement.

It’s an event not to be missed…
The anniversary weekend in Hayfield Village (where the trespassers set off from) is packed with interesting events to attend. There are speakers, stalls and an exhibition celebrating the event in the Royal Hotel and outside the village hall - it’s certainly worth a visit!
